Wednesday Rewind: follow-up on recent stories
Let's get to some of these before the day is over.
Do You See What I See?
A Las Vegas family called police to say they had an encounter with a โnon-humanโ in their backyard.
โIt was like a big creature, about 10 feet tall,โ one of them told responding officers, who minutes earlier had seen a weird lighted object fall from the sky. The case was closed because no other evidence of the sighting was available.
This comes a week after a whistleblower testified that U.S. agencies have been collecting parts of alien vehicles for years. We wonder, did the 10-foot-tall creature stop by to ask if their vehicle was ready?
Bishops Respond to Dodgers Hosting Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
The U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) has called the LA Dodgers hosting the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on Pride Night โblasphemy.โ Pride Night is scheduled for June 16, the Catholic feast day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The bishops have asked Catholic churches around the country to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on that day as reparation.
A message prepared by Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the Archdiocese for Military Services, USA, president of the USCCB; Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York; and Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles said in part:
โThis year, on June 16 โ the day of the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus โ a professional baseball team has shockingly chosen to honor a group whose lewdness and vulgarity in mocking Our Lord, his Mother, and consecrated women cannot be overstated. This is not just offensive and painful to Christians everywhere; it is blasphemy.โ
It has been heartening to see so many faithful Catholics and others of goodwill stand up to say that what this group does is wrong, and it is wrong to honor them.โ
Much Ado About Nothing
A few months ago, we published an opinion piece about possible upcoming indictments against Donald Trump and how the best approach would be to not react if and when they were made. Since then, Trump has been indicted twice - once for paying hush money to an adult film actress to hide an alleged affair and more recently for mishandling of classified documents - and so far the reaction from both his supporters and detractors has been relatively tame.
About 1,500 pro-Trump fans stood outside the Miami courthouse for Trumpโs latest indictment on Monday. Some got into heated arguments with anti-Trump protestors, but that was about it. Police reported no violence and no arrests.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez told CNN, โFrom my perspective, things have been peaceful. Every once in a while you have one or two people who maybe become disrespectful. But that hasnโt gone beyond disrespect to violence.โ
This is good news. At this heated moment, many people imagine a fisticuffs between those on the right and those on the left or fear that January 6 Part II canโt be far away. Hereโs to cooler heads prevailing. Hopefully it stays that way.
